James Lawes
On graduating from New York Film Academy in 2005, James directed a series of Cobra Beer idents for ITV. This won him the Cobra Vision Film Festival and a year’s supply of beer. James shot his first professional commission in Malawi aged just 24. His film became the charity’s fundraiser, raising over £7 million. In the last 5 years, James has been directing professionally non-stop. He has added 11 more citations and awards internationally for his work. His enthusiasm for storytelling has been applied to over 50 online films, TV Commercials, corporate films and even a TV food series. James is still only 28 and massively overachieving. As well as the commercials and corporate work, James has recently directed his second short film ‘Nadya’s Circus’. The film, shot entirely in Polish, explores the themes of human trafficking within England and Europe. This film recently received a nomination for Best Newcomer at the 2011 Rushes Soho Short Film Festival. The final winner will be decided later in the year. James is already working on his next short.
